Vortex is a study of cosmic geometry found in its unrepeatable forms. Conceived as a multimedia installation, the exhibition is the result of a formal exploration initiated by the Papo Colo's return to Puerto Rico eight years ago. The works uncover a sidereal and telluric imagery, through which orbital shapes and sculptural surfaces simulate the creative turbulence of nature. The use of materials such as earth pigments, wood and oil propose an expansive practice in the application of different pictorial methods. The artist incorporates the innumerable shapes of the rainforest found in branches and combines them with cords to bind the object-paintings. Characters emerge from the artist's earthy painting technique, producing a theater of signs that compile a bestiary inspired by an esoteric, yet inexhaustible, source. The articulation of a mythical-artistic cosmogony characterizes the aesthetic discourse of the artist and Pangea Art Republic's performative platform as an alternative space by an independent artist.
The exhibition will take place at Pangea Art Republic in August 2017 and inaugurates the Pana House under the breadfruit tree (Casa de los Panas).
The Pana House will serve as an exhibition space and will host different programs, such as a retreat for guest curators and cultural producers to develop new projects in isolation and immersion with nature.
